Dylan Learns to Ski

Even after being sick and pushing through her asthma problems Dylan has proven herself a real trooper by learning how to ski! She loves it! She was supposed to take lessons for half a day, but once given the option of going back out again after lunch she jumped all over it! She rode the gondola and the chair lift and skied down the mountain like a champ! She explained the french fry and pizza concept to me and I can tell that she’s proud of herself. We are so proud of her as well as is Ava. She likes tell people that Dylan skates! Ava wants to know when she can skate too. Dylan is on her third and final day of lessons. We are so proud of you Dyl Pickle!

Married to a NFL Quarterback

In my last post I told you that we are on a family vacation to California. On our way out here I was thrilled to find out that I am in fact, married to a NFL quarterback! How did this little tid bit of information get past me?

Let me explain. As we were exiting the plane at our first connection the pilot came out and stopped my husband and said, “I thought that was you, can I get a picture with you?” My husband being as accommodating as he is, agreed and they proceeded to make everyone on the plane wait to exit as the pilot got the exact picture he wanted on his iphone. I was confused as you can understand… So I asked my husband, “what was that all about?” He replied, with a sheepish grin, “He thinks I’m Brett Favre!” Then everyone around us suddenly exclaimed, “So did we!” Then as we’re walking through the terminal some guy comes up to him and says, “has anyone ever told you that you look like Brett Favre?” OH, but I’m not done yet…

So we get on our next plane to LA and the flight attendant comes up to us and says to my husband,”are you Brett Favre?” He explains that he is not and she says that they were checking the manifest for his name and thought that maybe he was traveling under an assumed name. I thought honey, if he was Brett Favre do you think we’d be flying coach? Someone would be carrying my bags and a car would be waiting for us when we get to LA!

Sunny (and cold) California

It’s good to be back in California. I haven’t been here for a few years and this time we are traveling with our girls. It was Ava’s first time to fly and she loved it. She sang Jingle Bells loudly for everyone, even the people who were trying to sleep. Wasn’t that thoughtful? She stayed awake the entire trip until there was 9, yes, 9 minutes left in the flight. Dylan has flown a lot because we used to live in England. She’s an accomplished international flyer. Unfortunately, she’s having issues with her asthma and was coughing non-stop. So in case the people weren’t awakened by Ava’s singing, Dylan’s coughing was sure to do the trick. She eventually did pass out thankfully. We got to LA and slept well. We drove the next day to some good friend’s house to visit and Ava managed to hit her chin on something and hit her head on a table No major damage thank goodness. Then we started our assent to Mammoth Mountain. Oh it all started off well and then Dylan threw up in car…oh yeah. We made it to our condo without another incident and then we laid down on the couch to rest and yes you guessed it….she threw up again. Not sure if it was car sickness, altitude sickness or a stomach virus….does it really matter? They all equal vomit. Then it was off to bed for a restless, ha ha, nights sleep. We were awakened by Ava screaming her head off because she had rolled off her bed, which was on the floor, and managed to roll under our bed and get herself lost. I would have screamed my head off too! We had to fish her out and she was eventually fine.

I’m glad to report that today has been better. Dylan has not thrown up and as of right now nobody else has either. Here’s hoping it stays that way. Ava hasn’t hurt herself today, but she is currently wrestling with Ty so any minute now…

Tea With Santa

I found the perfect alternative to visiting a mall santa. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with mall santa…just really long lines, feeling like you should hurry up because other people are still standing in that really long line once you finally do reach the jolly ole fellow, and picking from mediocre photos of your child screaming his/her head off.

This year instead we had tea with Santa at the Hermitage Hotel. Instead of standing in line for and hour and a half we were escorted into a beautiful, I mean beautiful room (chosen by many couples to host their wedding receptions), seated at our table, treated to finger food which included tiny pb&j sandwiches, scones, cookies and our choice of tea or hot chocolate. We were served by a very understanding wait staff, as was evident when Ava promptly knocked over her glass of water when we sat down. The children were all dressed in their best clothes and it was all very posh. A magician entertained the children for a while and then the hostess read the night before Christmas. Then the main event…Santa! He came into the room and walked around to each table greeting and conversing with each child. He made a real attempt to ease those children who were initially scared of him. He made his way to his chair under the Christmas tree and each child had their unhurried moment chatting with Santa. There was a professional photographer on hand to take photos, but we were also allowed to take our own. That means we have beautiful digital photos that we can manipulate any way we like.

Thanksgiving at Bam’s House

After visiting with my other relatives we travelled to Kentucky to see my mom, aka, Bam. The girls always have a great time with Bam and Donnie and they love to see the horses and cows. The farm is a great place to just run free.

Miley Cyrus!

One day my husband came home and said he had a surprise for our daughter Dylan. He managed to get the highly sought after Miley Cyrus ticket…on the 11th row! Now Dylan is four… yes that’s probably a little young, but she’s not clued into the whole controversial photos/dancing on a stripper pole, etc… She just knows she will see Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana! We left all the other information out.

I accompanied Dyl pickle to the concert. I admit it wasn’t completely intolerable for me. I had loud, but pleasant conversations with the other mothers around me. We all discussed how expensive the snow cones were and that we had just spent $30 on a t-shirt. Hey it’s her first concert, we had to commemorate it with a t-shirt! She got a little tired towards the end and started asking, with about four songs left, if this was the last song. Overall she had a great time and it was a special moment for me as well. My husband the photographer wasn’t there to take his usual fantastic photos, but I snapped a few for her so she can look back at her first concert when she’s 16 and think..Miley Cyrus..really mom?

Thanksgiving

I’m a little behind on my posts, but I promise to catch up quickly!

We spent part Thanksgiving with my father’s side of the family. It was special for me because I don’t get to see them much since my dad passed away and they were such a big part of my childhood. I knew it would be hard being with them without my dad. My uncles look like my dad and have such similar characteristics. It was emotional for me but also so rewarding to see my little girls playing at my aunt’s house like I did as a child. They sat at the same piano I did and “played”. For most of my relatives it was the first time they met my daughters. It was just very special for me and I hope all my aunts, uncles and cousins know how often I think of them and how much I miss and love them.
