Okay this one is for my dear friend Heidi who has posted a complaint about my lack of blogging. You’re right, I was getting ready to go back to school and as of this week, I’m back to work for the year. My summer break is officially over. I spent my last week of summer with Dylan. She went to gymnastics camp and loved it. Every time she begins a conversation with someone now it starts with, “I go to nastics.” People look at me puzzled and I explain that it’s gymnastics. I think she’s going to start going on a weekly basis now. The first morning I took her she looked at me and said, “you going to wear that to nastics?” I had on sweat pants and a t-shirt. I’m already an embarrassment to my child and she’s only 3! Speaking of being 3 and starting gymnastics… I’ve polled a few people and some say it’s too early and some say if she likes it, let her do it. I’m torn. I want to give her every advantage and if starting early helps her develop the skills she needs later for cheerleading or dance, then why make her struggle to learn later? The flip side to that is… is she going to get burned out? I want her to do gymnastics, take dance, play an instrument (preferably the piano and cello) and well, I’ll stop there for now. There’s so much for kids to do now and they start so young. What do you think, is it too much too soon?
July 4th Holiday July 7, 2008
We hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday! We travelled to Kentucky to be with Gram and Donnie. The girls had a great time and petting the horses. We went to the lake and watched the fireworks with Holly and Bennett and Jimmy got some great photos! Dylan made a couple of new friends, Chester the cow and Lady the horse. She informed me that Lady was her horse and that we should take her home. I don’t know how the neighbors would feel about that though. Thanks for a wonderful long weekend Gram and Donnie!
Back from the Beach June 17, 2008
We had a great time at the beach and we’re also very glad to be back home in our own comfy beds. We did lots of shopping, playing at the beach and in the pool. Dylan made some new friends at the pool and she very proudly likes to announce that she can swim by herself. I guess “myself” means with a death grip on mommy. It was great to spend some time with Bam and Aunt Nancy too. We had to fight off a little stomach virus on the way home, but we’re all okay now. It was a great vacation! Here are some photos to share with you.
Happy Father’s Day! June 16, 2008
I’ve always known that Jimmy would be a great father. He is great with all kids not just his own. Here are a few reasons why he’s a great daddy to Dylan and Ava.
- He makes time for them.
- He is patient.
- He tells them he loves them all the time.
- He’s willing to learn from his mistakes.
- He’s willing to learn from the girls.
- He backs me up when I need it.
- He disciplines them when they need it.
- He kisses their boo boos.
- He leaves work to take them to the doctor if I can’t.
- He encourages their curiosity.
- He makes them feel safe.
- He wants very much to develop a great father/daughter relationship.
- He understands how important his role as father is to two little girls.
Those are just a few reasons why Jimmy is such a great father and why I love him. Happy Father’s Day! We love you!

Day #1 At The Beach June 10, 2008
We arrived safely last night and got a good night’s sleep. This morning we went shopping for a while, ate some lunch and then home for a short nap. Then it was time for Ava to see the Ocean for the first time! We packed up all the necessary beach stuff and walked over. I took Ava to the edge of the water and sat her down and she immediately started crying. She wasn’t a big fan. I sat with her in the shade and tried to get her to play in the sand, but she didn’t care for that too much either. I think I may have a high maintenance baby. Eventually she took a little walk in the sand with me and took the opportunity to annoy Dylan by stealing her sand castle toys.
Dylan on the other hand has always loved the beach. She was ready to dive in! I picked her up and we went into the very rough waters and I was immediately knocked on my butt and of course she went down with me. Her face didn’t go under water, but after that mommy wasn’t allowed to take her into the water anymore. We hit the pool after the beach and well Ava wasn’t a big fan of that either. Both girls were worn out though so mission accomplished as far as I’m concerned!
Ava is fast asleep and yes as usual Dylan is still awake. She’ll fall asleep as soon as I lay down and stop blogging! Miss you Daddy, wish you were here!

Hi Daddy #2 June 5, 2008
Well the girls had a good day at Mrs. Di’s and we just came in from playing outside. Dylan and Ava are upstairs in the playroom having a tea party. I don’t think Ava is cooperating with Dylan, she sounds frustrated. It was really hot today and sunny. The lawn has been mowed and it looks much better. Dylan and I are going to try and catch some lightening bugs after Ava goes to bed. I think Dylan and I are going to the pool with Brandi tomorrow. We miss you!

Let’s Party! May 31, 2008
Today we celebrated Dylan’s 3rd birthday. I can’t believe she’s already three. We had a party at The Monkey’s Treehouse and Dylan had a blast playing with her friends. We had pizza and cake and when it was time to blow out the candles, Dylan started the Happy Birthday song to herself and everyone joined in. That’s my girl!
We were so happy to share this day with friends and family. Gram and Nancy drove in from Paducah, Papaw drove up from Memphis and Aunt Angie and Aunt Maria came from Cincinnati. Now we’re playing with all the wonderful gifts and I think Dylan is about to finally wear out and take a little nap. Mommy and Daddy love you very much Dyl Pickle! Happy Birthday!
One Word….Cupcakes! May 29, 2008
Dylan’s 3rd birthday is this Sunday, June 1st. Mrs. Di likes us to bring treats to daycare when our child has a birthday so I decided that I would bake cupcakes this year instead of buying them. No they aren’t the prettiest, but they are extra special cupcakes and let me tell you why. Dylan and I put the icing on together and for the first time in probably 25 years my grandma’s kitchen stool was used. Believe it or not I use to bake biscuits from scratch with my grandma and sit on her stool. Tonight Dylan sat on that same stool and helped me decorate cupcakes. Grandma would be proud!
Summertime! May 20, 2008
This is the last week of school and that means summer is here! I look forward to spending time with my girls, getting myself better organized, hanging out at the pool and sleeping in late (well as late as a 1 year old will allow me). Dylan is taking swimming lessons and she’s going to gymnastics camp this summer. We hope to take a trip to the beach with Gram and spend some time in Kentucky with her.
What are you looking forward to this summer?

“Going” in the Great Outdoors April 21, 2008
Well Dylan is feeling better. We’re still doing breathing treatments, but I think this episode is just about over. She’s had fewer asthma incidents this year than last, so we’re hopeful it will continue in that direction. I think all the pollen in the air triggered this problem. I’m even feeling a little stuffy myself.
We went for a walk the other day in the park and Dylan had her first experience using the potty in the great outdoors! It was hilarious. She couldn’t find an acceptable spot to “go” in. She’s doing a great job with the potty training. I’m so proud of her!
