Weekend Highlights August 26, 2008

As usual we had a busy weekend.  As I look back though I realize it was filled with diverse activities.  We kicked off the weekend on Friday night with the first high school football game of the year!  It was a beautiful night as you can see from the fantastic photos my husband took and we won!  The girls had a great time running around and watching the cheerleaders.  As you can see Dylan was the cutest cheerleader.

On Saturday night we visited a friend of ours, Rick.  Rick and his wife Theresa were kind enough to let me temporarily live in their garage apartment when Dylan and I moved back from England.  Rick is a character to say the least.  He’s a brilliant computer type guy and in the army reserves.  He’s been to Iraq and let’s just say he has many firearms.  Rick and his wife have painstakingly built a quaint cabin in the woods for camping on the weekends.  We took the girls to see the new cabin and catch up with Rick and Theresa.  Remember I said Rick has firearms…  I’ve shot many guns in my lifetime, probably more than most chicks.  I haven’t had much practice with handguns, so when I saw that Rick had one on his hip, I asked if I could do some target practicing.  Before you ask, we had a long talk with Dylan about guns and both girls wore protective ear covers.  I have pictures to prove it.  Okay so I missed the first few times and then – success!  I hit my target and well you can see from the photo – pure joy on my face.

Sunday night we went to the Cross Point Community Church volunteer banquet.  You can check out more about that here or here.  It was quite the event.  There were over 500 volunteers at the event who have devoted time and energy to the church.   Dylan and Ava got to eat pizza and popcorn and hang out with some of the Veggie Tales characters.  It was a great night and a great ending to a much needed weekend.  So from high school football, to shooting guns, to church events.  You just never know what you’re going to get when you hang out with us!

Aunt Nancy has always said that Ava is going to be a singer.  Well I don’t know if this is proof or not, but it’s cute!

Guest Blog From Witty Woman August 15, 2008

I BLOG, THEREFORE I AM

Okay, here’s my guest blog, though I believe your challenge is just a thinly veiled attempt to get out of doing a post yourself!

It seems that EVERYONE has a blog these days and I just have to ask “why?”. I’m not complaining, (contrary to what Queen Kari would have you think) but I thought I would delve a little deeper into the psyche of a person who chooses to reveal intimate details about their life to the masses.
Did blogging start out as a way to extend the usefulness of those mind-numbing Christmas Newsletters? Filled with the descriptions of family vacations to exotic locations, achievements of brilliant children and financially beneficial career advancements, these letters often are perceived as an excuse to brag rather than inform. By all means, tell us about Sally Lou’s appearance on the honor roll, but make us feel better about our own lives by including Bobby Joe’s overnight stay in the pokey for peeping in the neighbor’s windows!
Or maybe blogging started as a written form of a reality tv show? People want to be acknowledged, for being, well…themselves. Now that anyone has a chance at grabbing those 15 minutes of fame, everyone with a internet connection has decided that their life is worthy of being analyzed by hordes of “voyeurs”. Let’s face it, there are some creepy wackos out there and a blog seems like an excellent way to interview potential stalking victims.
Lest I be judged harshly for being too critical, I’ve saved my personal theory for last. Do people who blog just want to have that connection with the people they love the most, the people who love them? Hey, time is precious nowadays and we don’t have the time or energy to have the same conversation with Aunt Sue, Sorority Sister Shelly and BFF Heidi. So why not save the long distance and blog about the things going on in your life? Your loved ones are interested in even the humdrum goings-on, not just your pithy comments on world affairs, though we’ll take either because we miss the good old days when we had and gave unlimited attention to the things that mattered. Maybe we blog to stay alive?

Hope this will suffice!
Love, Heidi

My BFF Heidi – I”m back in school and so up on the lingo – anyway, my BFF Heidi has posted yet another complaint about my lack of blogging lately.  She posted a list of topics she thought I could blog about under Queen Kari.  I have another idea though.  I’ve decided to turn the table on my witty friend.  I think you should do a guest post on my site.  You can complain, I mean discuss, anything you like.  I know how you hate to learn new things so if you want to type your post in an email and just send it to me I’d be happy to post it for you.  I reserve the right to edit anything said about me that I don’t like.

Check out witty woman’s list of suggested topics for me to discuss.  What would you like me to blog about?
